heart emergencies

Heart disease is common in dogs. Signs include coughing, pale or blue gums, bloated belly, decreased tolerance for exercise, fainting, increased breathing rate or difficulty breathing, too fast or too low heart rate, loss of appetite, diarrhea and weight loss.

1. An animal with heart disease can go into congestive heart failure and have difficulty breathing, can collapse and/or can go into cardiogenic shock.

2. Check your dog's ABCs, and perform CPR if needed.

3. Take your dog to a veterinary hospital immediately.
